Excerpt from The Sisters Lawless, Vol. 1 of 3: A Novel
Little Mrs. Lawless had an idea that it sounded more loving to call her relations something which ended in "ie," than to give them their full first names. So her sister Rosalind changed into Rosie, her brother Elphinstone became Elphie, and after she married, her husband, Francis, never got his real name from her, but was Frank or Frankie; appellations peculiarly unsuited to him, since he was dark, and rather sinister looking.
